What you can do in Bearberry and surrounding area

From relaxing with a good book to challenging the outdoors - and there's nearly always some sort of festival near by. We always have current information available for you when you call, write or visit.

Within a distance of only 15 minutes drive you will find a lot of places you can explore. To get a taste of the wonderful Bearberry area where you can spend your holidays please have a look at the pictures of our area and different places.

Put your hiking boots on

If you like to go for a hike, just put your hiking boots on and start directly from our house and you will find yourself in the middle of wilderness. The panoramic scenery of the meadows and crystal clear waters provides an avenue for the urban dweller to escape from the city turmoil to enjoy the freedom and beauty of nature at its best. Follow the river bench and discover the beautiful area of the Clearwater and the James River. Lots of small creeks are guidelines to untouched spots.

Bring your horse and start for a ride from our property

We have fenced pasture, so if you like you can bring your horse while you stay in our comfortable suite. Certain conditions apply. Please ask for details.
You will find lots of outfitters in the area that are providing guided trail rides. If you like to take the opportunity to learn how to ride horses you can do this as well.

Do you like to go fishing?

The close James River, lots of lakes and small creeks provide a whole variety of fish. One of the best kept secrets is the Burntstick Lake close to our property, where you can find all you need for a very relaxing or adventurous day, you can build a sand castle with your kids on the beach. If you would like to do some whitewater rafting on the Red Deer river, we can make arrangements for you.
Wildlife watching

There is an abundance of wildlife

The wilderness is only a few steps out of your room. The creek on our property is the home of a lot of different animals, like many birds, even hummingbirds, wolves, coyotes, deer, moose and elk. Especially during the winter time you are able to see moose right in our yard. Usually you cannot get closer to this shy animals. The shown picture was taken right in front of the guest suite.

For the Golf enthusiast

If you like you can spend every day of your holidays on a different golf course. They are open to the public. Please ask for a special Golf Course map. Sundre provides 3 golf courses.
x-country

Cross-Country skiing in a pristine surrounding

You can go cross-country skiing at our own property or a few minutes away you will find the Bearberry Nordic Centre, well known for its well-groomed x-country trails. Enjoy the scenic views. They also provide a shooting range.
Put on your snowshoes and go for a walk on the frozen creeks and rivers in the wintertime.

Within a 2 hour drive you can visit all the major attractions in Central Alberta, like:
  • the Banff National Park and Lake Louise
  • the world greatest shopping mall in Edmonton
  • the Stampede and the Zoo in Calgary
  • the Dinosaur Museum in Drumheller
  • and much much more
